2004 Game Summaries

Practice April 6 and 14, 2004

It was a dark and stormy night. No...It was sunny and mild on the Arroyo. It was a beautiful day for a game, and we almost had enough players for a scrimmage. The Goats At Practice (GAPs) were: Donna, Jackie, Cindy, Beth, Miki, Lisa, Keith, Tom, Boy-Wonder Kevin (not to be confused with Wonderboy), Chris, Bryan, Shuichi, Ian, and Larry (who arrived too late to warm up).

The Goat bats (an extinct species?) were not yet impressive. Miki tried to wear down the shortstop in order to get a hit, but unfortunately you can't bat 20 consecutive times during a game...

The Goat fielding was tentative, at best. We'll chalk that up to the Gusev-like terrain and some interesting hops. But how do we explain all of the dropped flies?

Most exciting moment - Chris sliding into home ahead of Bryan's throw to Keith. Worst decision of the day - ditto. Ah, youth and enthusiasm...

It was a fun practice with no injuries. Oops, wrong. Donna broke a nail (before practice).

The GAPS for April 14 were: Donna, Keith, Chris, Toni, Lloyd, Marc (Goat Rookie), Lisa, Tom, Kevin (who pestered everyone for Miki and Bryan's cell phone number before they showed up), Ian, Larry, Shuichi, Wayne, Bryan, Miki and Leslie (who arrived in time to take batting practice and was guilted in to showing up by Wayne). Goat Spectators included: Hanne and Don Johnson and Tom's daughter Ashley (Miki is trying to talk her in to joining the Goats).

The Goat bats were much better this week and the fielding, well, there was some notable improvement. The terrain was less Gusev and more Meridiani-like including the possibility of water. The sprinklers were on just to the west and there was some concern about them coming on over on the field we were using.

I hope you all made a good impression with the new field manager, Chris. I noticed him checking everyone out and mentally thinking where they should be in the line-up and what position they should play in the field. Let's have a great season. GO GOATS!

Game 1, April 20, 2004, vs Running Dogs

Opening Day of Season 2004 and for the second year in a row the Running Dogs of NASA were our opponents. The Goats were eager to get started and the Dogs were just plain out there enthusiastic. The Dogs were up first and scored 3 runs. The Goats answered the challenge and the first batter, Keith, hit a homerun to begin the season. Unfortunately, little did the Goats know this particular hit would bring the game to an end much earlier than planned. The ball ended up in a crowd of soccer players practicing and the coach was not too happy. He told the Dogs outfielder that he had a permit to be there and was going to call the City to have us removed.

The Goats and Dogs refused to be intimidated and proceeded to play with the Goats scoring 5 runs in the 1st. By the middle of the 3rd inning the Dogs were up by 1 run. The Goats scored 1 to tie it up and had bases loaded with no outs and Beth getting ready to hit when...the City park authorities showed up. After speaking to the Goat Manager, Donna, and not being able to produce a permit, were told to leave. The game was called on account of no legal permit to play. A phone call was immediately placed to C-League commissioner Charlie Kaczinski regarding the lack of permits to play.

Up until the quick end to the game, the Goat fielding struggled to get a handle on the ball, but managed to keep errors from being too damaging. The offense on the other hand was looking pretty good. Early Batting highlights included: homeruns by Keith, Bryan, Don and Keizo and a double by Bryan. Abbreviated score Goat Scouts 8, Running Dogs 8.

Post game note: Charlie Kaczinski received something from the city in the form of a permit for the team playing Wednesday night on H3. The official permits should be forthcoming. Charlie has assured the Goat Scouts this game will be rescheduled.

Game 2, April 29, 2004, vs Fringes

Opening Day, take 2. Earlier in the week it was HOT! HOT! HOT!. Tonight it was very comfortable and although we did not have an official signed permit, we did have a copy for 2004. What a surprise having 18 Goats show up for this game, except not exactly on time. Chris had the field positions all set up, but with several late shows, it made for an interesting first couple of innings. Thanks to everyone for your patience and I hope everyone got to be in the field for at least 3 innings.

Fielding wasn't too bad although there continues to be overthrows to first in the excitement of trying to get the runner out. The most intersting was a sharp hit to short, where Dave was perplexed that the ball was not in his glove and he scrambled around looking for it. Offensively, the Goats mercied in the 3rd inning and double mercied in the 5th. In the 1st inning it was fun watching Chris chase Miki home on a great homerun hit. Keizo bought himself a new bat and although he had difficulty connecting with it, Lloyd hit the "snot" out of it in the 3rd inning. I think the Fringes are still chasing down Lloyd's homerun to right field! Batting highlights included: homeruns by Chris and Lloyd (2) and doubles by Chris (2), Keizo and Tom. Final Score Goat Scouts 22, Finges 14.

Game 3, May 3, 2004, vs Wild Turkeys

WOW! Was it hot and "buggy" out there. Thanks to all who showed up on time and to those that were late, let's try harder to be on time. Defensively, it was Chris, Chris, everywhere Chris. The Turkeys tried so hard to hit it elsewhere, but were only minorly successful. In the very first inning Chris was involved with all 3 outs. He caught two fly balls and on the 2nd connected with Toni at first to catch the runner off the base for a double-play. Later in the game a Turkey runner was caught in a "pickle" between 2nd and 3rd, by Brian, Shuichi and Lloyd and finally got him out going to 3rd. This runner gambled and lost, by not stopping at second.

What can be said about the Goat hitting? It was an amazing evening, especially for the long ball as there were 2 doubles, 5 triples including the first of the season by a female, Jackie and 3 by a single person, Dave, who didn't really want to stop at third, but did listen to the base coach and 7 homeruns! Everyone made great contributions as the Goats mercied in the 2nd inning and double mercied in the 4th inning. Keizo is still having trouble with "cat girl" and Chris politely tried to get him to use a different bat, but Keizo insisted on trying to get his money's worth. Don't worry, Keizo, your fellow Goats have gotten your money's worth with "cat girl". But, Keizo finally got the last laugh when he hit a homerun in the 5th inning knocking the left fielder, Sam, onto his backside. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan, Keith, Chris (2), Keizo, Tom and Shuichi, triples by Lloyd, Jackie and Dave (3) and doubles by Bryan and Keith. Final Score Goat Scouts 27, Wild Turkeys 18.

Game 4, May 11, 2004, vs Gravity Fielders

It was 5:30pm and only 1 opponent had arrived. The Goats had 9 players at 5:30 and 8 more showed up before the game actually started. After loaning the Fielders 3 players (Keizo, Marc and Cindy) plus Kevin, the game got underway shortly before 6pm. In the middle of the 1st inning the Fielders returned Cindy to the Goats, but kept the others for the remainder of the game. The Goat offense was nothing less than spectacular as the hits seemed to zone in on Keizo playing in center field. Lloyd was the first to hit a homer past Keizo using "cat girl". Keizo then tried to hide "cat girl" from the Goats to prevent further hits. Keizo tried to use his knowledge of the Goat defense to his advantage, and although he hit 3 singles he was never able to score. He was tagged out twice at third. The first while trying to get an extra base running from 2nd to 3rd and the second while thinking he could score and ended in a pickle that ended quickly. Marc and Kevin were also able to get some hits and unlike Keizo they were able to score.

Chris tried to get in Beth's way on a hit to right, but she stood her ground and didn't let him near the ball. Hey Chris, let your fielders field the ball! You don't have to be involved in every play! In fact the infield played so well, not many hits ended up in the outfield. Because of the late start the game ended after 5 innings (7:15pm) which was just as well because the Goats had been in mercy or double mercy for much of the game. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Keith (a grand slam), Chris, Lloyd and Dave, triples by Don, Chris, Lloyd and Ian and doubles by Keith, Don, Chris, Lloyd and Tom (2). Final Score Goat Scouts 27, Gravity Fielders 11.

Game 5, May 20, 2004, vs Voodoo TOAD Fury

Our First Loss of the season and it had to be the TOADS! The Goats had a couple of bad innings on defense and 3 bad innings on offense. The two bad innings were the 1st with Keizo pitching and the 6th with Keith pitching. Where was Lloyd when you need him most? The defense let too many hits go for extra bases, by not hitting the cut-off person, i.e. Bryan. The offense struggled a bit, although the Goats came within 3 runs of the TOADS, before getting blown away in the 6th. Since this "reporter" played in every inning, not all highlights can be recalled. If there is another Goat who would like to take a stab at this write-up, please send it to Donna for inclusion on the web page. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan and Chris and doubles by Chris and Wayne. Final Score Goat Scouts 14, Voodoo TOAD Fury 26.

Game 6, May 26, 2004, vs Eclectic Eccentrics

What an exciting game! The Goats trailed the Eclectic Eccentrics for much of the game. It started bad in the 1st inning when the Eccentrics had the Goats in mercy 13-3. The Goats did not let this get to them as they fought back and scored 8 runs in the top of the 2nd and allowed only 2 to the Eccentrics. By the end of the 5th inning the score was Eccentrics 20, Goats 18. The Goats were close but still behind. In the top of the 6th the Goats scored 7 runs and pulled ahead by 5. The Goat defense came alive in the 6th and didn't allow the Eccentrics to score. The Manager of the Eccentrics, noting that it was way past 7 pm, asked if we wanted to play the final inning. Bryan said "yes", whereas the two Goat Managers, Miki and Donna would have preferred stopping. The Eccentrics are a good team and proved earlier they can score. In the top of the 7th the Goats added 2 more runs and the defense just needed to keep the Eccentrics from scoring 7+ runs. It was tense as the Goats were able to get the first couple of outs but did allow them to score 5 runs. The Eccentrics were then able to get runners on 2nd and 3rd with the winning run coming up to bat. This batter, it should be noted, is a high school baseball player and thought he would be the hero, but it was not to be as Lloyd pitched him a ball that he swung at for an infield grounder to end the game. To quote Bryan "and that's why we go 7". This was a very exciting game! Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan (3), Keith, Lloyd and Goat rookie Marc, a triple by Keith and doubles by Bryan (2), Ian, Keizo and Marc. Final Score Goat Scouts 27, Eclectic Eccentrics 25.

Game 7, June 3, 2004, vs L.A. Radars

Weren't sure there was going to be a game or not as some of the Goats were late. As the home team, the Goats took the field with 9 players with the 10th showing up after two outs. Thanks Don, for coming when you did. The Goats batted in the 1st without their lead off hitter Bryan who showed up shortly after missing his turn at bat. In the end the Goats fielded 12 players, but only 3 women who did a great job playing the entire game. The Ishikawa brothers provided the evenings' entertainment. First Keizo hit a homerun using "cat girl" which surprised and delighted him. Later Shuichi pulls a Cirque de Bauble juggling act on a line drive to him at 3rd when just as it appears he's going to catch it, it drops. He made up for it on the very next play, by fielding the ball just off 3rd and carefully feeding it to Bryan to end the inning. On Keizo's last at bat he literally came out of his shoes running to first base. Thanks guys for the excitement. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan, Lloyd, Marc, Keizo and Don, triples by Keith (could have been a homer if the 3rd base coach, Donna, hadn't stopped him at 3rd) and Marc and doubles by Bryan, Keith, Larry, Keizo and Don. Final Score Goat Scouts 17, L.A. Radars 11.

Game 8, June 8, 2004, vs Paper Tigers

No Game. The Paper Tigers were unable to field a team and called the Goat Managers to let them know. Thank you to Steve Alfrey for not waiting until the end of the day to notify us.

Game 9, June 14, 2004, vs Bruisers

What a thrill for the Bruisers! The Goats were barely able to field a team and would have had to forfeit for the first time in 17 seasons were it not for Leticia Montanez and Gene Brower. After arriving at the field co-manager Donna mentioned to Cindy the lack of players coming and Cindy suggested giving Leticia a call. Donna made the call and because she sounded so desperate, Leticia and Gene took pity on her and came. Thanks go to the Bruisers for allowing the Goats an extra 10 or so minutes to field a team. While the Goat defense looked good for most of the game, there was that one bad inning when the Bruisers mercied the Goats. On offense the Goats kept popping out and left runners on base too many times. It was probably caused by the lack of "wonder boy" and "cat girl" just wasn't enough to pick-up the slack. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Chris (2) and doubles by Keith and Cindy (1st of the season). The batting highlights really sum up the lack of offense, although it was fun to see Keith hit the trashcan in foul territory off left field. Final Score Goat Scouts 8, Bruisers 14.

Post write-up note: After reading the Bruisers write up, the above Goat write-up should be revised. Thanking them was obviously a bit too premature! Gee Karen, too bad the Bruisers felt it was a technical forfeit more than an actual win. It was unfortunate that many of the Goat faithful were on vacation or otherwise engaged. The Game could have been called before starting and we all could have made an early evening of it, but some of us like and wanted to play. As for the game being called at the 6th inning, the Goat co-manager replied before consulting with the team and in the famous words of Bryan (who was missing) "and that's why we play 7 innings", because you never know what can happen. The Goats pride themselves on completing 7 innings.

Game 10, June 23, 2004, vs Acquisition Allstars

What a great night for a softball game. After a week where it was difficult to field a team, tonight's game had 16 players. The Goats owe the Allstars an apology for the mercy and double mercy that was put on them. This was due to the bitter loss suffered against the Bruisers the previous week. Wayne made his debut as alternating pitcher and managed to give up only two runs in the 3 innings he pitched. Jackie had a difficult time in the outfield, as no matter where she was they hit it to her. Chris also had his difficulties in the outfield as he couldn't seem to field anything. He blamed his play on his dinner. My goodness, Chris, what did you eat? Miki caught a couple of liners at second and got involved with a pickle between 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately the runner was safe, but it was fun to watch the runner trying to decide what to do. On offense, the Goat bats were getting the job done. There were a lot of really good singles by all. Marc wins the "Ugly Running" award this week for his aggressive scoring techniques. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan, Chris and Keizo, and doubles by Bryan, Lloyd, Wayne, Don and Keizo. Final score Goat Scouts 27, Acquisition Allstars 16.

Game 11, June 29, 2004, vs Deep Space Cadets

Another beautiful evening for a game. The opponents started the game with only 8 players and the a Goat playing catcher. Eventually another Cadet showed up, yet the Goats continued to catch for them. The Goats really opened it up in the bottom of the first on offense scoring 9 runs, not quite mercy although the Cadets were hoping. In the second inning the Goat defense consisted of Tom, Tom and Tom. He was involved with every out, feeding the ball to Cindy twice and catching the ball once at second for the force. The offense continued it's streak in the 2nd inning finally putting the Cadets in mercy. Donna's grounder in the 2nd between the 3rd baseman and shortstop confused both of them letting Shuichi and Donna both get on base. Two batters later, Keith smacks a line drive to 3rd and injures a Cadet player, but is out as the quick thinking shortstop catches the deflection. The 3rd baseman leaves the game with a bloody nose, hoping that nothing is broken. He sits with the Goat players on Keizo's dual chair. Towards the end of the game he appears none the worse, but it is suggested he go have an x-ray just to be sure. The Cadets have a good rally in the 6th inning scoring 8 runs which gets them out of double mercy and mercy. In the final inning of the game, Wayne proves that he can move as he catches a low liner and rolls the ball towards 1st. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan and Chris (2), triples by Jackie (her 2nd this season) and Keizo and doubles by Bryan, Keith, Chris and Marc. Final score Goat Scouts 19, Deep Space Cadets 10.

Game 12, July 8, 2004, vs Running Dogs

This weather can't be beat. It was another glorious evening to play ball. Beth's co-worker Dan joined us tonight and proved right away he was Goat material. His first play from 3rd was a dead-on throw to 1st to get the runner out and then subsequent plays went wild to 1st. Tom played the whole game at short, while Bryan had to settle for sharing 3rd base. Chris decided to shake things up a little on defense and based on the Dogs hitting, it worked. The Goat offense was on fire. They had the Dogs in mercy by the 2nd inning and double mercy by the 4th. The Dogs came back in the 5th and got themselves out of double mercy and mercy, but the Goats put them back in mercy at the end of the 5th and never looked back. Kevin was his usual questioning self and his mother, Pam, was overheard telling us to "smack him" if necessary. I don't think anyone took her up on that, but some probably wanted to. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan, Dave (2) and Lloyd (2), a triple by Chris and doubles by Bryan, Dave, Chris, Lloyd, Shuichi and Keizo. Final score Goat Scouts 25, Running Dogs 14.

Game 13, July 12, 2004, vs Cinco Equis

Tonight it was HOT! The only thing that made it tolerable was a slight breeze or else it would have been unbearable. The Goats were in fine form on offense and defense this evening. Cinco Equis was mercied in the 2nd inning when the Goats scored 9 runs to add to the 1 in the 1st. Cinco would come back and score 2 getting themselves out of mercy, but be right back in it when the Goats batted. The Goat defense was spectacular. Not many hits made it out of the infield. In the bottom of the 5th inning Dan at short snagged all 3 hits and threw to Larry at first for the outs. It was 3 up and 3 down for Cinco Equis. In the 6th inning Dan gets the wind knocked out of him on a sharp, low, line drive that he manages to snag and hold on to for the final out of the inning. It was noted that Keizo is so lazy, he started to bat left handed after his first at bat to be two steps closer to first base. Now that's just lazy and it only helped him the second time he batted. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Chris and Dan, triples by Dan and Marc and doubles by Larry (2), Lloyd and Chris (2). Final score Goat Scouts 18, Cinco Equis 8.

Game 14, July 19, 2004, vs Homers

It was HOT once again, but with a slight breeze. Unfortunately the Goats sat on the first base side with the sun in their faces, which made it very difficult to watch out for short foul pop-ups. The game got off to a rough start when there were no regular Lay's BBQ chips at Ralphs. The team had to settle for Ruffles BBQ and Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion. This should have been the omen to what lay ahead. The Homers did a really good job on offense and especially on defense. They mercied the Goats in the 4th inning and came close to double mercy in the 7th inning. One would think the Goats should just pack it up and call it a game, being behind by 14 runs, but no! Something sparked 'em. Could it happen, could the Goats really pull this one out?. The game got very exciting when the first 6 batters got hits and several scored before the first out. Then the next 9 batters got on base. It was now 15-16 with the tying run on 2nd. Unfortunately on the next hit the Homers got the runner out going to 3rd on the force. The tying run was still on 2nd and the next hit put the tying run on 3rd and the winning run on 2nd. With the bases loaded, the Goats only needed a good long single and the win would be theirs, but alas, it was not to be as the batter grounded out to end the game. In the eyes of the Goats it was still a thrilling and very exciting game. It's a major victory when the Goats can keep Richard Chen from reaching first base in his 3 at bats! Up until the 7th inning there were only 5 hits in the entire game by the Goats. Batting highlights (although few) included: a triple by Dan (to get the 7th inning started) and doubles by Bryan, Keith, Chris, Tom, Jackie and Marc. Final score Goat Scouts 15, Homers 16.

Post write-up (from Lloyd): Lloyd may have cemented his role as MVG (Most Valuable Goat) with two plays. First he dropped an easy fly ball with two outs that allowed two runners to score (remember margin of defeat was only 1 run). He has his chance at redemption in the bottom of the seventh. After the tremendous rally by the Goats, they were down by only one run. Lloyd came up with two outs and runners at second and third. A crummy single nets a win for the Goats, but alas, Lloyd could only manage a weak groundout, preserving the Homer's victory. He is also up for a nomination for MVH (Most Valuable Homer). This could set a new standard in MV awards and surpass even Keizo's ability to help the other team.

Game 15, July 26, 2004, vs Crawdads

What a pleasant evening for a game. It was not too hot and there was a nice breeze. You could not have asked for better weather! Now on with the game. Defensively the Goats were very impressive through the first 5 innings and then came the 6th. Always a difficult inning for the Goats and this game was no exception. Luckily the Goats were up by 16 runs as the defense got complacent and allowed the Crawdads to score 8 runs thus eliminating any mercy. The funniest play of the night came on a ground ball that was deflected off Tom's glove and as Bryan picked up the ball to try and throw to first he runs smack into Tom and starts dancing. If only there had been some music playing! Chris our field manager was slidelined this evening due to an accident last Friday at work where he accidently sliced off part of his finger. OUCH! Chris still came out for the game, just in case he was needed. He was overheard to be whining about not playing and having to sit on the sidelines and just watch. Chris is hoping he's able to play in about 2 weeks. Wayne showed up after returning from the east coast, but decided not to play unless absolutely necessary. This was a surprise Monday appearance as he usually plays tennis on Monday nights. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Lloyd (3 - as he redeems himself from last week), a triple by Marc and doubles by Bryan (2) and Tom. Final score Goat Scouts 18, Crawdads 12.

Game 16, August 3, 2004, vs K.I.D.S

The weather was perfect. Before the game got started one of the KIDS managers asked about a rule regarding a ball hit in to the street on the right side. He was looking for an agreement to a ground rule double. Donna, one of the Goat Managers initially said "no". She then conferred with Goat Manager Miki and Field Manager Chris who agreed. Donna commented that no left handed Goat hitter has ever hit the street. Lloyd, who overheard the remark, took the challenge and hit it in to the street in his first at bat for a homerun. During the game Chris tried to shame Shuichi regarding his hitting in the 5th inning. Shuichi requested a fine instead, preferring former Field Manager, Keith's methods over Chris's. There was some arogant base running by Lloyd, Chris and Bryan on Bryan's very, very deep homerun. Keizo was at a loss without his "cat girl". Seems he forgot to pick-up his bat at the end of last week's game against the Crawdads and has not been able to find it. Contact Keizo if you have it. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Dave, Lloyd and Bryan, triples by Dave and Chris and doubles by Dave, Chris and Keizo. Final score Goat Scouts 10, K.I.D.S. 16

Game 17, August 16, 2004, vs K.I.D.S.

What a difference two weeks makes.

WEB GEMS from guest writer Keith Martin: Line-drive double play from Lloyd at pitcher to Lisa at first. Lloyd lead Lisa to the bag with a nice touchdown throw. Then Lloyd tried to get the three-for-two special on outs, but the KIDS weren't interested.

Two tags at third by Keith; one from a come-backer to Lloyd and the second unassisted on a fielder's choice. Lots of other action at third: a 6-5 force from Bryan to end an inning, two grounders for outs, and a mighty 10 foot grounder from Eric A. that Keith had to field because Keizo was catching.

Dave H. had a couple nice running catches in right-center, including one that concluded with a dance through the mud puddle.  Dave also had some trouble running the bases as he passed up Keizo who was running in front of him on what would have been a homerun, but was called out by the KIDS, even though they touched second base in the right order.

Donna almost snagged a hot line drive with the "I'm not gonna get hurt, but I'll stick my arm out anyway" technique. And Larry almost got a contortionist job with the Cirque de Soleil with his twisting, turnaround "say hey" basket catch attempt of a foul pop at catcher. Gee Larry, even Keizo managed to catch a foul pop (but he didn't have to move).

Another Classic Moment: For about the third time this season, Chris was seen waving his arms more frantically than the robot from Lost In Space as another female opponent sent a homerun over his head. His analysis of the play: "they didn't back me up!" Sure, Chris. Next time it'll be "well, the infield missed it first!"

Batting highlights included: homeruns by Keith, Lloyd and Keizo, triples by Lloyd, Toni (her first) and Donna (her first ever and she still can't believe it) and doubles by Chris and Dave. Final score Goat Scouts 14, K.I.D.S. 10

Game 18, August 25, 2004, vs Paper Tigers

Goats Defeat Paper Tigers

Defensive Sparklers: Dave H. backed up Larry on an in-between fly ball, relayed to Chris, (Hey - we hit the cutoff!!) who threw to Shuichi at third for the tag on the runner (who overran the bag). Chris had a couple nice stops at short.

Defensive Stinkers: Keizo, at B-Team pitcher, threw at least 40 feet over Lisa's head at first. Too bad the Olympic Games don't have a worst throw event, because then we could get him on a team that would appreciate his considerable talents.

Other News: Goat Rookie Jessica made her debut.

Batting highlights included: homeruns by Keith and Chris and doubles by Toni, Larry, Tom (2), Jackie and Keizo. Final score Goat Scouts 24, Paper Tigers 17.

Game 19, August 31, 2004, vs Eclectic Eccentrics

The game got underway on a very Hot August Night, and no Neil Diamond wasn't there, after Bryan and Donna informed 2 separate groups of soccer players about the dangers of setting up in right and center fields. Jackie informed us that today is Chris's birthday and she predicted 3 homeruns for the birthday boy. Her prediction nearly came true until the Eccentrics wised up to his hitting amd made a defensive substitution in the middle of the 3rd inning. They said it was due to an injury, but none of us saw blood or even a limp! Offensively the Goats were in fine form. There were a couple of innings where just about everyone batted, save for one person. However, the managers have been asked to adjust the batting order so that Dave bats behind two guys, just to throttle his .7c speed. Dave nearly ran past Cindy at 3rd base and this really confused the Eccentrics. Luckily Cindy was safe at home and Dave was safe at 3rd. This was also a high scoring game, very similar to the first time the Goats and the Eccentrics met earlier in the season. This time the Eccentrics nearly pulled off the upset scoring 11 runs in the 4th inning to put them within 2 runs of the Goats, but the Goats powered back in the 5th scoring 6 runs and allowing no runs in the bottom of the 5th to end the game at nearly 7:30 pm. Defensively the best play was Bryan's 6-3 double play, at third, where he almost ran Keith over. In other news, Keith announces his intent to retire, Miki and Ian watched while nursing injuries and Cindy's boys Gavin and Justin came out to cheer their mom on. Batting highlights included: homeruns by Bryan, Keith and Chris (2), triples by Chris, Keizo and Dave and doubles by Bryan, Keith, Shuichi, Cindy, Dave and Larry. Final score Goat Scouts 27, Eclectic Eccentrics 19.
